In this tutorial we are going to attend the following steps:


  • Disabling of Unwanted Visual Effects.
  • Tuning off Useless Features.
  • Disabling of Sidebar.
  • Disabling of Aero Peek and Aero Snap. (Optional)
  • Disabling of Aero Theme.
  • Disabling of User account control (UAC) Feature.
  • Changing of Power Plan To Maximum Performance.

Disabling of Unwanted Visual Effects.

  • Right click on "Computer" and select "Properties".
  • Click on "Advanced System Settings" to open the "System Properties" Diagoal box.
  • Select the "Advanced" tab from it. Then Under "Performance" click "Settings". Choose "Custom:" Options.
  • Now uncheck all the options (Choose “Adjust for best performance“) and select only the last 4 options (actually 3 are preferable, you may un-check the second option out of the last four).As shown in screen shot below.


Tuning off Useless Features.

  • Open "Programs and Features" from Control Panel.
  • Click on "Turn Windows features on or off" from the left pane.
  • Now un-check all the Feature that you don’t use and then restart your system for the changes to take effect.

Disabling of Sidebar

  • Right click on the sidebar and choose "Properties".
  • On the properties dialoug uncheck the check box showing "Start sidebar when Windows Starts"

Disabling of Aero Peek and Aero Snap. (Optional)

  • Open "Control Panel" and double-click on "Ease of Access Center".
  • Click on "Make it easier to focus on tasks" presented at the bottom.
  • Now uncheck the checked box saying "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen".
  • Right click on taskbar and select "Properties".
  • Now uncheck "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop" option.

Disable the Aero Theme.

  • Right Click on Desktop and select "Personalize" click on Window Color Tab.
  • Uncheck the Box saying "Enable Transparency" and then click on "Open classic appearance properties for more color options".

Disable the User account control (UAC) Feature.

  • From the Control Panel open the "User Accounts and Family Safety" >User Account.
  • Click the User Account Control settings link.
  • Now just Drag the Slider towards "Never Notify".

Changing of Power Plan To Maximum Performance.

  • Click on "Power Options" in the Control panel.
  • Click the down arrow showing "Show Additional Plans".
  • Now activate the "High Performance" option.

Disabling of Unwanted Start Up Items. 

  • Type "msconfig" in "RUN" box and hit Enter key to open System Configuration Utility.
  • Now open "StartUp" tab.
  • Now Uncheck the option which not needed.

Disabling of Search Indexing Feature.

  • Right Click the "Computer" and select "Manage".
  • Click "Services and Applications" in the “Computer Management” window.
  • Click on "Services".
  • Find "Windows Search" from the list.
  • Right Click on it and choose "Properties".
  • The "Windows Search Properties Window" will open. From "Startup type" choose "Disabled" option.

Disabling the Unwanted Services.

There are many services in windows 7 that we don’t depend on for our daily use. so it is recommended to Disable them.
Open "Services" list by providing "services.msc" command in "RUN" box.

  • Show window contents while dragging.
  • Use common tasks in folders.
  • Use drop shadows on icon labels on the desktop.

Optimize Virtual Memory Pagefile Size

Open My Computer Properties Dialog Box ( Win key + Pause Break ), Choose Appearance -> Setting tab in Performance field then Advanced -> Change under Virtual Memory area.

In the middle of the screen, select the "Custom size" button and enter a number that is 1.5 to 2 times the amount of physical RAM in both the "Initial size" and "Maximum Size" box. -> OK.

Clean Unwanted Data

Open Disk Cleaner
Start -> Run, Type, "cleanmgr.exe" then OK.

Disable Unwanted Windows Option

Open Folder Option
Start -> Control Panel -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View.
Now un-check the following unwanted option:
  • Automatically search for network folders & printers.
  • Display file size information in folder tips.
  • Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list.
  • Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.
  • Show pop-up description for folder and desktop icons.
  • Use simple file sharing.
Other options don't affect the system performance. You can enable/disable them according to your requirements.

Disabling of Unwanted Sounds

Open  Sound & Audio Devices
Start -> Run, Type, "mmsys.cpl" then OK.
Now Select "No Sound" in Dialog box,
or you can enable your few of the sound like Exit Windows, Start Windows, Windows Logoff, Windows Logon

Optimize Windows Boot Time

Open  System Configuration Utility
Start -> Run, Type, "MSConfig" then OK.
Under the Boot.ini Tab reduce the Time From 30 sec to 3 sec, and
Under the StartUp Tab Disable all the Unwanted StartUp Items To Reduce the Booting Time. 

Remove Unwanted Fonts

Open Fonts Folder.
Start -> Run, Type, "Fonts" then OK.
Delete All The Unwanted fonts Which are not for your Business.

  • Distributed Link Tracking Client (If you have NTFS partition, then don't disable it)
